Forever 21 Opens In Japan!

Forever 21, the trendy inexpensive priced clothing chain debuted in Japan on April 29th.
Three weeks later our Rinkya staff member caught these pics- the line is still looooonggggg.



I love their clothes but do not think I could wait in this long of a line!

Looks like Forever 21 is a hit in Japan!

Melons Drop In Price But Still Shockingly Expensive!

The infamous auction for the first Yubari melons of the season took place this past Friday and sold for 500,000 yen (nearly $5400 USD)!!

The shock is not the high price tag but rather the huge drop from last year's auction price of 2.5 million yen (nearly $27000 USD)!
Looks like Japan's drop in prices involves every sector!

So why the high price?
Giving expensive fruit in Japan is a prized gift as seen by our prior blog posts: Grapes for A Grand and Square Watermelons!

Takara Tomy are releasing Optimus Prime & Bumblebee Robo Qs- the tiniest walking robots!
They stand only 1.3 inches high (think thumb-sized) and are remote controlled (the remote control is HUGE).




Although Optimus Prime & Bumblebee may have issues with being considered kawaii, we cannot resist these cute little robots!

Many Ponyo On A Cliff Updates! US RELEASE!! DVD RELEASE!!

Miyazaki's latest masterpiece- Ponyo on a Cliff has a US release date- August 14th!

Dubbed in English with an all star cast- Noah Cyrus as Ponyo, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Betty White, Frankie Jonas, and Lily Tomlin.

Hopefully, Disney is able to release it in many theaters across the nation!

In other Japan news-

Ponyo On A Cliff will be released on DVD July 3rd!
two DVDs will be available- Standard (4935 yen- Preorder SALE price 3948 yen) or a Special edition (19110 yen- Preoder SALE price 15228 yen) of 5 discs loaded with specials!
Both will have English subtitles- but none of the specials will have subtitles :(

There are plans to release a Blu-Ray edition- but no mention of a date yet!

Japan Makes Playing With Your Food So Much Fun!!

This reminds me of one of my favorite games when I was a kid- Mouse Trap!

In Japan it is for traditional nagashi soumen. You grab the noodles as they go down the cold water slide.

The pipes also break off and act as bowls to hold spices in it to place on the noodles.
