Vote for Kiyomizu Temple to be One of 7 New Wonders of World!

I visited Kyoto Japan over the weekend and went to the beautiful Kiyomizu Temple.

Kiyomizu Temple was originally constructed in 798 but has been reconstructed a few times since- the present buildings date back to 1633.
The temple is located in an area with lush greens and tall trees- nature providing a serene back drop to the majestic temple.

Miyazaki's Next Film Announced!!

The new movie is "Gake no ue no Ponyo"- Ponyo On A Cliff
Hayao Miyazaki's newest creation is expected to be released in the the summer of 2008.

The story will be about a Princess goldfish named Ponyo and a little boy named Sosuke. The goldfish wants to become human.

Miyazaki has had great success with his movies throughout the world, winning an Oscar in the US (the first Japanese animation to do so).

We look forward to his newest movie!

Tagata Jinja- Japanese Harvest Festival!

On March 15th every year, Japan has a huge festival for fertility and fruitfulness.

To celebrate the festival, a huge penis is carried (at least 6 feet long)- called Oo-Owasegata. It is a symbol of the source of life to all of nature.

Free sake is distributed and penis shaped candies, keychains, penis on a stick and other souvenirs can be found everywhere.

The look of the festival is quite amusing to outsiders, but the festival is a sacred and special day in Japan.
